19 Mar ALTO 2019 BUMPER HARVEST
Harvest preparations are well underway at ALTO Olives in the NSW Tablelands and the season bodes well. The long, hot summer and ongoing drought has affected many NSW olive growers but at ALTO Olives near Crookwell, NSW, the anticipated 2019 harvest will be double the prior season. Summer storms have nurtured vigorous trees with a bountiful crop of well-formed, disease-free fruit.
Table olive harvesting will commence in early April and continue for several weeks. Each days pick will be graded, sized and brined. The oil olives will be machine harvested in late April, three machines working round-the-clock to achieve the daily target of 10 – 12 metric tonnes. After milling the virgin oils are racked and assessed. The new season 2019 ALTO Olive Oils will be available by early July.
