22 Oct ALTO TABLE OLIVES NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
The Australian International Olive Awards 2019 celebrate the best of the best Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Table Olives. It is with pride that we announce dual Champion Trophies for ALTO Table Olives at this year’s competition.
Champion Green Table Olive (Class 11) was awarded to ALTO Martini and Champion Medley Table Olive (Class 12) was won by the popular selection ALTO Misto, marking our most successful performance to date in the national table olive competition.
‘Australia’s table olive industry continues to make significant strides, progress that comes in part from careful grove management and investment in processing facilities, both of which are a focus at ALTO Olives,’ commented proprietor Robert Armstrong.
This focus also played a part in the Gold Medal awarded to the flagship single varietal extra virgin oil, ALTO Vividus crafted from the Hardy’s Mammoth variety. This same oil recently won the Single Varietal Championship at the 2019 Sydney Royal Show, and earlier this year ‘Best in Class’ at the New York International Olive Oil Competition.
‘ALTO is committed to producing exceptional quality olives. But clearly some seasons are better than others,’ continued Robert Armstrong. ‘The lack of rain this year meant our trees produced lower yields but the 2019 table olives and oils display compelling aromatics, complexity and balance.’
ALTO Vividus was commended by the judges for its intense aromas of fresh celery, artichoke, tomato vine and green apple adding to its well-defined complexity.
The AOA 2019 competition heralded a total of one Gold Medal and five Silver Medals for ALTO Robust and ALTO Delicate olive oils, and for ALTO Kalamata, ALTO Martini and ALTO Misto table olives.
